Philip Barlow for the NYT.
I shot this image knowing full well the NYT would never ever run it. It took me about a minute to do and then I switched back to natural light. I’m not encouraging people to not meet your clients needs, but you can definitely push yourself while on assignment and you never know what they will like…
On Saturday, my dad did his first full Iron Man at the age of 60. I knew Iron Man races were crazy but trying to do a photo project at one really put it in perspective. I’m in relatively decent shape and I’m 26 and I almost died just trying to photograph this race, much less do it. I am really excited about this project I shot of the race. I am so incredibly proud of my dad. He ended up placing third in his Age group despite claiming that he “just wanted to finish”.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Iron Man races, they consist of a 2.4 mile swim in open water, a 112 mile bike ride and a full 26.2 mile marathon to finish everything off.
More motocross stuff. Just playing with the new flash. Not sure how I feel about these.
