Doomsday prepper Braxton Southwick. Shot for Men’s Journal, story out now.

I photographed “doomsday prepper” Braxton Southwick at his house in the suburbs of Salt Lake City, Utah for Men’s Journal. I’ve never had a more compliant/stoked photo subject and we came up with tons of shot ideas and he did every single one, no matter how crazy it was. It was a lot of fun. Thanks to Amy McNulty for the assignment.

One of the smith twins (they are identical so if you know which one this is, please tell me). I always like it when I manage to snag a portrait of a child that doesn’t involve a smile. Now this kid is usually smiling but I think it always feel more honest to me to get a straight up portrait. Especially of a child. You don’t see it often these days.
